Safety note

Single source of truth

This is the authoritative safety page. Other pages link here rather than restate it. TESLASUIT is not a medical device and is not certified as one. Using it for medical purposes — including diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment, or alleviation of disease, injury, or disability — requires prior approval from a medical doctor, who may revise the contraindications below depending on the goals and objectives of the treatment program.

General precautions#

Using TESLASUIT is safe if you follow these rules:

  • You have no medical contraindications (see below).
  • You are sure that all safety requirements are met.
  • You are using the suit according to the user documentation.
  • You know what to do in critical situations.

Most medical contraindications relate to the effects of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) — the elicitation of skeletal-muscle contraction using electric impulses with specific parameters. Individual sensations from EMS may strengthen or weaken from session to session; this is related to the electrodermal activity (galvanic skin response) of the skin, and means that even a well-calibrated suit can cause slight-to-moderate discomfort. The suit's materials have been tested for skin allergic reactions with no negative outcome, but individual hypersensitivity is still possible, and hypersensitivity to the materials is itself a contraindication.

Always use the suit with external supervision. Check the list of contraindications to make sure it is safe for you to use TESLASUIT; if you are not sure whether your case is listed, consult your medical doctor. The list is not exhaustive.

Medical contraindications#

General medical conditions#

The following general medical conditions are considered contraindications for use, defined by clinically verified diseases according to ICD-10. Where the user guide gives an explanation and a recommendation level, it is shown below.

Implants and prosthetics

Implanted electronic devices — pacemakers, defibrillators, insulin pumps, neuro-stimulators, pain pumps — are an absolute contraindication: the electric potential difference from superficial EMS may disrupt their operation. Implanted metal prosthetics can act as conductors and disrupt the current path in tissue; whether they are a contraindication depends on placement and material (consult a doctor).

Specific non-medical conditions#

The following non-medical conditions are also considered contraindications:

  1. Age under 18 or over 65.
  2. Endoprostheses and any internal (implanted) metallic materials, and implanted devices (pacemakers, defibrillators, neuro-stimulators, pain pumps) — which require keeping a distance of 5 metres from an active TESLASUIT.
  3. High environmental temperature and humidity, body dehydration, and physical exhaustion.
  4. Any history of an adverse outcome after using electro-physiotherapeutic devices.
  5. A low threshold of pain or of electrical-stimulation sensitivity.
  6. A feeling of fear of contact with electricity.
  7. For women: menstruation periods and an installed intrauterine device.
  8. Intake of specific medication — antipsychotics, anticholinergics, antidepressants, antiparkinsonians, anabolics, corticosteroids, antihistamines, antihyperlipidemics, macrolides, neuromuscular blocking agents — and alcohol, psychotropic, or narcotic drugs.

A medical doctor may revise these contraindications for a specific user depending on the goals and objectives of the treatment program.

Safety — DO#

  • Use the original charger, cables, and other accessories shipped with TESLASUIT.
  • Check the control unit each time before connecting TESLASUIT to it.
  • Keep the suit away from fire — its materials are highly flammable.
  • Keep the suit away from sharp and cutting objects.
  • Before putting on the suit, remove any body piercing, especially if it is located in the electrode application area.

Safety — DO NOT#

Warning

  • Do not crush, throw, or squeeze TESLASUIT or its accessories.
  • Do not charge the control unit when the electrical wiring is overloaded.
  • Do not charge the control unit while the suit is connected to it.
  • Do not wet TESLASUIT accessories, or expose them to heat.
  • Do not disassemble the suit or its accessories.
  • Do not use the suit every day, and do not use it for more than one hour at a time — there is a risk of heat stroke.
  • Never put electrodes on your head.
  • Do not wet the suit while it is connected to its power source. If you spill something on it, immediately disconnect it from the power source. Do not wear a wet suit.
  • Do not use the suit when dehydrated, or in an altered state of consciousness.
  • Do not smoke while wearing the suit.
  • Do not use the suit when the air temperature is too high.
  • Never wear a damaged suit, and do not try to repair the suit by yourself.

Operating environment#

When environment conditions change significantly, recalibrate the suit. Strong electromagnetic fields may affect TESLASUIT operation, especially the mocap feature, and TESLASUIT may in turn influence the operation of sensitive equipment nearby.

Handling accidents & critical situations#

In any accident or critical situation, the first measure is to unplug the USB cables from the suit (disconnect the power bank). Then contact TESLASUIT technical support and describe the situation as soon as you can.

A person wearing TESLASUIT feels unwell#

  1. Immediately unplug the USB cables from the suit.
  2. Take off TESLASUIT.
  3. Provide first aid if necessary.
  4. Contact a doctor.
  5. Report the situation to TESLASUIT technical support.

TESLASUIT hardware (including accessories) has visible damage#

  1. If the suit is connected, unplug the USB cables from it.
  2. If you or anyone else has put on a suit with visible damage, take it off. Never wear a damaged suit or use damaged accessories.
  3. Report the situation to TESLASUIT technical support.

TESLASUIT hardware is working incorrectly while someone is wearing it#

If you have even the slightest suspicion that something is wrong with the hardware or accessories:

  1. Immediately unplug the USB cables from the suit.
  2. Take off TESLASUIT. Do not try to repair it or disassemble it yourself.
  3. Report the situation to TESLASUIT technical support.

TESLASUIT software is not responding or works incorrectly while a connected suit is worn#

  1. Immediately unplug the USB cables from all connected suits.
  2. Take off TESLASUIT.
  3. Disconnect all other connected suits.
  4. Close all TESLASUIT applications and stop teslasuit.service (in Windows: Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services).
  5. Do not try to connect any other TESLASUIT.
  6. Report the situation to TESLASUIT technical support.
