Known limitations — Hardware
We document known issues and inherent constraints openly so that users can plan around them and report problems with context. The limitations below are distilled from the XR5 user guide and the safety note; the conceptual background lives in the linked notes.

Mocap: magnetic interference in 9-axis mode#
9-axis mode relies on the magnetometer, which references heading to the North Pole. Ferromagnets and large metal objects nearby can influence this mode and degrade tracking. Where magnetic interference is unavoidable, use 6-axis mode, which ignores the magnetometer — at the cost of calibration not being preserved across sessions and requiring the sensor sets to be re-arranged in defined positions each time. Strong electromagnetic fields may affect suit operation, especially mocap. The suit may in turn influence the operation of sensitive equipment nearby.
Operating envelope#
The suit is rated for operation at 5–35 °C and 20–65 % relative humidity (storage allows up to 85 % RH). Performance and safety outside this range are not guaranteed. Using the suit in high temperature or humidity also risks dehydration and heat stroke. See Hardware - Specifications and Hardware - Safety.
Session length and frequency#
The suit is not intended for daily use, and a single session should not exceed about one hour — over-use carries a risk of heat stroke. This is a safety constraint rather than a technical cap. See Hardware - Safety.
Skin contact and individual variability#
Haptic effectiveness depends on good electrode-to-skin contact and on the individual electrical properties of the skin (galvanic skin response). Poor fit, intervening clothing, or dry skin reduces sensation, and the same channel can feel different from one session to the next — which is why calibration is required and why even a well-calibrated suit can cause slight-to-moderate discomfort. Power and connectivity dependencies#
XR5 includes a power bank (shipped separately) and a Wi-Fi adapter in the shipping case. The power bank is easy to miss on first unpack because it is not in the case; the adapter is required when the host PC has no suitable built-in Wi-Fi. Neither is a defect, but both are common first-use blockers if overlooked. See Hardware - Getting Started and Hardware - Specifications.
